I heard this years and years ago on Oprah and I have really taken it to heart. If someone lies to you and treats you like crap, they are showing you they are an asshole. Believe them. Don't wait around hoping they change, still letting them treat you badly. It really applies to all kinds of relationships.
The 23rd Psalm is my all time favorite Bible verse. I recite it regularly in my head when I am scared or worried.
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
